SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Laura Callaghan BA (Hons) MA
Callaghan studied Music and Media Studies at the University of Sussex, receiving a First Class Honours degree and the Ede and Ravenscroft Award for Outstanding Ability in Music. Callaghan went on to achieve a distinction for her MA in Composition for Film and Television at the University of Bristol.
Concert works include chamber and orchestral pieces, which have been performed nationwide. Her most recent performances include the premiere of "Whirled" for Mandolin Orchestra, commissioned by The Fretful Federation; a performance of her orchestral piece "Stress" by the University of Bristol Symphony Orchestra; "Observe Him" performed in St.Georges Bristol by the Apollo Saxophone Quartet and Goldberg Strings; a collaborative animation "The Seagull Ogles While We Pass By" (click to see video), premiered at the Watershed Cinema, Bristol and broadcast in December on BBC 2. In 2006, Callaghan was granted the PRS/Bliss Trust Young Composer award.
Callaghan runs a media music composition service, Hand-made-music.co.uk, which specialises in writing bespoke music for the media: Hand-made-music works with production companies and creative film makers to provide unique media music. Most recent compositions include: "Grand Pier" to a short animation premiered at the 2008 London International Animation Festival (click to see video); music for a "Stamp Out Poverty" campaign film launched at the House of Commons (click to see video); Helen Feather Cancer Vaccine Film (click to see video ).
She is currently living with her partner in Hertfordshire and working in Kent, for Kent Music as Product Development Manager, and as a contributor photographer for istockphoto.com (for photos click here).
